Personally, I'd mix some menthol crystals with my favorite alcoholic beverage and mist the tobacco with that, not beer or wine but whiskey, rum etc.

I put menthol crystals in a couple of small breathable pouches made from one of my wife's old nite gowns and put it inside the bag that my tobacco came in store bought and let it sit in there for a while about a week at around 70 degrees if you want moore quicker put it somewhere where the temp is higher but becareful the stuff is strong and will melt at around 110 degrees. Or you can use the alcahol method I found here http://cigaretteflavour.info/ and also seedman discribes it also but that is using his formula premixed does not say how much menthol crystal is in his formula if you use the 3mg per cigarette of menthol you should be able to figure it out based on how much tobacco you will be treating. I have heard of people using vodka as the alcahol.

Here is the link to seedman flavorings he uses 2 oz of his mixture for 1lb of tobacco so get 2 oz of vodka and put 1200 mg or 18.58 grains if you have a gunpowder scale of menthol crystals figuring that 1 lb would make 400 cigarettes. Looks like he charges alot for his 1lb mentholation spray. menthol crystals are cheep just find some cheep vodka and you could probly make this mix for around 50 cents per pound. If it is too much menthol for you just leave it uncovered and the menthol escapes pretty quick you will need to put it in a container after it has been treated to keep the menthol in. If it is not enough just spay it some moore. I have also been treating my filtered tubes by putting a fair amount of menthol crystals at the bottom of a soore and lock air tight container and putting the whole box of cigarette tubes on top of the crystals and opening the top of the tube box and letting it sit for around a week at 70 degrees. You could probably get quicker results at around 85 degrees just becareful stuff is potent. again if it is too much just leave them out and the menthol will evaporate.

It's interesting that this thread appeared today. This afternoon's mail included 8 oz of menthol crystals I purchased. They're made from steam extracted oil and not solvent extracted from the mint leaves. I'm looking forward to making a bit of menthol tobacco.

I tried an experiment. I put some crystals in a coffee filter and twisted it tight and tied it shut. Then i dropped in about 3 of these bags in a 1LB bag layered and closed it. In 1 small frosting sized plastic container i just dropped in some tobacco and some crystals and shookit up, put it away to check on later. Im hoping this way to avoid moisture rot and mold, and keep the menthol crystals in the bag and seal it down as i use it. I like my menthol strong!!! I can allways mix it with more tobacco, if its so strong it burns. lol. i used some of seedmans mix 1 time in a plastiv container on some golden harvest menthol, it mad a super menthol i had to mix down, it was sooooo potent.

I might try the alcohol but i dont want evaporation, i want menthol dry saturation, like cigar smoke trapped in your clothes.!!! or a cedar chest, ya know what i mean!!!

i also put some crystals in a glass bottle with water, sat that glass in a gallon ice cream pail, and put tobacco around it, Im going to set it in the sun and sweat.?!

i also ordered some CHEAp pipe menthol tobacco for $15.00 a LB + $8.60 shipping sunday, should be here tomorrow. Im going to use it as a mix.

heck i cant buy 6 oz of gold harvest for $30 + tax??!

I like a few menthol smokes a day and decided to try Criss Cross mint flavor. The price at my local discount smoke shop is $7.99 plus sales tax for a 6 oz bag. With a box of zig-zag 100s the price per carton is just under $13 including tax. In my opinion the flavor is better than kite or zig-zag menthol. It's labeled as pipe tobacco and it works fine in my supermatic single use pipe injector.

With the alcohol method only the alcohol should evaporate leaving the menthol behind or at least that is my guess. What works for you is what's best.

Where do you buy menthol crystals? I just prepared another four ounces of tobacco and changed my formula. I am using pure peppermint extract, chocolate extract and Vanilla. I cut back drastically on the chocolate (1/2 teaspoon), used 1/2 oz of vanilla and three tablespoons mint. I will let it sit for four or five hours, toast and smoke. What mint are the crystals? I have always thought that wintergreen would be a better flavor. I do not like a lot of menthol. In fact, if I can barely taste it that's good. I just like to take the bite out of my tobacco.

I finally purchased a carton of Premiere menthol tubes. I am down to burley and they make my burley taste like Salems. Really strong menthol. I like the idea of mint leaves but haven't tried it yet.

All right, I am sticking with menthol tubes for harsher tobacco. I am not going to flavor my 75%/25% VA/burley mix for non-menthol. I really like the hint of vanilla and choclate smell so my 50%/50% will be flavored with one oz. vanilla, 1/4 teaspoon chocolate extract and 1 teaspoon mint extract. All three mixed together and diluted with three ounces water. Don't let the mint fool you. You will barely taste it if you taste it at all. The mint removes harshness. I spray 1 lb. or a little less with all but about table spoon of the mix. Place the tobacco on two paper plates and nuke it in a microwave for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes per plate. Pour the contents in a plastic coffee can or a large baggy and spray, shake, spray until the flavor mix is gone. When you nuke the tobacco it is dried out so much that the spray is absorbed and the tobacco is dry enough to smoke within minutes. If too dry place a piece of napkin with four or five drops of water in an area of the baggy/canister where no tobacco is touching it. Take it out in 30 minutes and check the tobacco. Continue as needed.

Thanks for the recipe. I'll have to give the menthol a try, I've got the chocolate and vanilla. Do you think a mint extract would work? I have some peppermint extract.
