just for kicks i e-mailed A.S. to see if they would divulge at least the types they are using, didnt really expect an answer.
today got this, not only an answer, but the actual blend.
havent tried these, but it looks like it SHOULD be good, so i wonder about it after hearing people here say they are bad?

Thank you for your email. The following information refers to our Natural American Spirit "Original Blend" tobacco.

Note: percentages are approximate.

NAS Additive-free Blend

72% of the blend is U.S.-grown, flue-cured Virginia tobacco.

18% of the blend is flue-cured Virginia tobacco grown on foreign soil, e.g. Canada, Brazil, France.

§ This foreign-grown tobacco measures significantly lower in tar and nicotine than U.S.-grown and is used to control tar and nicotine levels. All imported tobaccos are certified non-GMO.

10% of the blend is US-grown burley and Turkish oriental tobaccos.

§ Turkish-grown is considered to be the best oriental type tobacco.

Thank you for your interest in our products, Keith!

Best regards,
The People of Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company

Can Genetically modified be a true organic product ?? What process is used to Genetically modifiy something ??

True it might be grown using all organic farming . But isn't a truley organic anything all natural ? altering genes can not be natural

Edit

well i finally broke down and tried some american spirit...
they sent 2 $10 coupons, so for a buck something for 2 packs what the hey!
got 1 yellow, supposedly the lighter of the bunch
1 black "perique"and 2 blue, supposed to be their "original flagship full flavored"
i would have liked to try the maroon full bodied, but that style was sold out
all were relatively smooth, almost to the point of being a light, but as you hit the halfway point aqnd beyond there was a definite roughness felt in the throat (possibly the small percentage of burly they add not being mellowed enough?)
the closest i could compare it to was the "medium" that several companies offered a few years back
all 3 were so similar that one had to light 2 different styles and try a drag of each to notice any real difference
This was especially dissappointing with the supposed perique blend, i had hoped enough perique style had been added (especially with the price per pack) to have a noticeable portion of that taste coming from that.
overall, being they are a higher price than other national blends, i would say not worth the money...

Funny thing about "organic" is...
Petroleum based fertilizers and insecticides are not organic, but the substance they are made from (crude oil) is the essence of everything organic. It's just a bunch of organic stuff squeezed and heated up that turns into crude oil. Something just aint right about that.

That's a sporting reply from American Spirit !
Nice of them.

How did it go... the euro content was certified non-gmo but our domestic was not?
I've heard they are taking regulation a bit farther over there... just a matter of time before they do it here.

I'll need to actually look up the daffynition of 'organic'. If some batch of dna has been tampered with, it remains an organism and will still grow in nature... in some cases, it may just grow better with addition of fertilizer at a certain time in it's growth cycle, or roundup can be applied without significant damage...
Regulation of the technique is probably a good thing. At least identification of it.
No telling what trait they will be able to manipulate from one year to the next !

Makes no difference to me, personally... we live in the flight pattern of an airport !
I could become the impact of a loose part at almost any time.
