I thought it might be a nice stickie to have in the Tobacco Strains section.

A list of strains with pics at various stages of development.

I know I could use it right now.

I planted Silk Leaf but I have 1 plant that is very obviously different from the rest and I would love to know what it is.

Image

I could use such a thread to identify it.

There are about 2,000 varieties of tobacco. Your picture does not give enough information to even begin guessing. A side shot might be helpful in narrowing it down to a class of tobacco, but beyond that...it would be anyone's guess.

Looks really healthy whatever it is. Looks like the leaves are darker than most and very smooth. Perhaps some kind of cigar wrapper? I'm just guessing. I'm new at this tobacco growing thing. Guess you'll have to smoke it and see if you like it. Maybe you should let it seed just incase you really like it.

The leaves kinda look Silkleafish.Wonder if it bolted with that wide spacing between the leaves. Is that a bud forming?

Bob grew alot of silk and maybe he will chime in with thoughts.

Could be retard also

The guy that sent me the seed said it could only be Madole or Burly (which he purchased but it doesn't look like either of these), Silkleaf or Havana Redleaf which were his own seed. The plant came out of the packet labelled SilkLeaf.

Is it possible it is a hybrid?

The older leaves don't look much like SilkLeaf.

But the newer ones do a bit more.

All my SilkLeaf have gone to flower but I don't think this one has.
Not seeing any buds as yet.

New growth looks like this.

Howdy,

My first thought when I saw the picture was madole, I grew three plants last year and it had a narrow long dark green leaf. My madole was very mild, almost bland (all by itself) and was great blended in with stronger varieties to help mellow it out. I'm growing 8 plants this year. As far as the picture database, NewHope.com has the best site for getting an idea of what different varieties should look like. Hope that helps -- Chuck.

Yup New Hope has about 4 pic ( for most ) strains . Showing plants in several stages of growth and while flowering .

btw

The leafs look more like sucker growth to me than a plant but I can see that it's not unless you rooted a sucker . Them new leafs sure match the description or name I guess ( Silver River ) . Deffently a white/silver color .

Silver River is a good guess out of 2,000 varieties, but it a bad guess out of four varieties (especially when one of the four isn't Silver River :D). I'd go along with Chucks guess (since he grew it before and it's one of the choices))

Ah Shucks! If only I was that lucky on the lottery!! Of course, I didn't know about the banana trees, that must have been from Don's extensive covert ops in Central and South America! LOL!! Looking over the pictures it looks like you have hornworms on you're plants. You may want to dust them with some Sevin Dust or something similar. Chuck.

Well, on a different topic about this plant. If it's your only one, you probably should bag it for the seed incase you really like it. If you don't then you won't be growing it again.

I can see a few similarities but perhaps my plant isn't mature enough.

I supose I'll go with Chuck's guess. This plant was started in mid summer and has not gone to flower, even though every one of my Slikleafs did.

I'll keep it going till it flowers just in case.

Re Hornworms, I can live with them as long as they don't cause too much damage. I would prefer manual control over chemical. I very rarely us any chemical control in my garden.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of my madole as it was maturing last year, but it had a nice smooth dark green leaf like your plant. The ripe leaves looked like the new hope picture.
